REL receives substantial grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) in support of RELs diamond open access to scholarly research
The team at Reviews of Economic Literature (REL) is delighted to announce that REL has received a substantial grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
NWO supports journals with diamond open access to scholarly research, i.e., free of fees for authors and readers. The REL team and our partners Stanford University Press + Public Knowledge Project welcome the funding to help establish REL and a new way forward for academic journal publishing. The NWO grant will fund additional activities, including two workshops in the Netherlands, to enhance visibility in the academic community and attract submissions by well-recognized authors. A pipeline of high-quality, publishable papers will help achieve the next key stage of securing library funding to ensure REL's long-term sustainability.
REL Associate Editor Michalis Moatsos, who led REL's application, said: "NWO's funding sends a strong signal that academic-led, nonprofit publication of quality research is an alternative to commercially owned journals. For REL, diamond open access ensures the fairest and widest distribution of articles reviewing developments across the field of economics."
